TRAMCAR INCIDENT

MOTOHMAN’S NARROW ESCAPE. An exciting occurrence, which caused considerable alarm to tlie passeii■uts on a tramcar., took place shortly after 3.30 o’clock on Sunday evening, near the corner- of Queen and Grey Streets, Onehunga. Motor man Taylor, who was driving car No. 82, which, was bound for the city, • suddenly gave a shriek and was thrown irom the front of the car. On the conductor. and others rushing to the fallen motorman’s assistance lie was found to. have had .a narrow escape from being electrocuted, the current having struck him through tlie controller. . , , Although very weak and pale, Motorman Taylor after a while went to the rear of the car and endeavored to get it started again, but another shriek was heard, and again .the unfortunate man experienced a severe shock. Other cars began to bank up, wliiie efforts were made to get 'the ear going, but eventually it was deemed advisable net to experiment with the power-charged brakes any longer. Another ear then took No. 82 in tow, and it was placed in the barn shortly before seven o’clock. Motorman Taylor suffered considerably from his unpleasant experience, and was far from well for a day or two.
