THIRTY MILLION TONS OF SHIP-
PING IDLE

LONDON, Jan. 15
A hundred representatives of the north-east coast shipowners met at Neweastle-on-Tyne, and resolved to form an international combination to regulate the supply of tonnage to the demand. Sir Walter Runciman., of Walter Runciman and Co., was chairman, and stated that nearly two million tons of shipping were idle, and that dividends had dropped nearly thirty millions sterling. Another speaker said tliat shipowners were short of a living freight by 23£ millions sterling.
