THE TARANAKI TOURNAMENT. (Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH. Jan. 15. The Taranaki tennis tournament was continued to-day. Rough and wet weather precluded ipilay during the morning, hut from (about 2 p.m. the weather cleared and the courts soon became playable. In the men’s championship singles, Parker heat' Dr. Fookes, Fisher (beat Caplen, Wilding heat W. Pearce, Jennings (beat A. Powdrell. -In the championship doubles, Taylor land ißlaick beat Niche ll son end Smith, Parker Brown bent Pearce and Morton, Fisher and "Wilding beat Powdrell and Powdrell. In the (ladies’ championship singles (second round), Miss Nunncley Lent Miss Cave, 6 —o, G —o, Miss Powdrell beat Mrs. E. Jones, 6- —1, 6 —-0; Mrs. Payne beat Miss V. Simpson, G 0, <3—l. Third round: .Miss Nunnelcy heat Miss L. Thomson,. G —o, 6—o. In the combined championship doubles, Miss Nunneley and Wilding beat Miss Thomson and Taylor, 6—o, G—3.
