THE ARBITRATION TREATY.
NEWFOUNDLAND’S POSITION. United Press Association, Copyright (Received Jan. 19, 12.35 aim.) LONDON, Jan. 18. Mr. Kent, Attorney-General of Newfoundland, 'confers with Mr Elihu Root, United States Secretary of State, and the Right Hon. J. Bryce, British Ambassador, and also the Canadian Ministers respecting the final draft of the Canadian and Newfoundland coastal fisheries arbitration treaty It is stated that the Americans are claiming heavy damages for Newfoundland’s interference with. American vessels fishing on the treaty coast. Newfoundland opposes the inclusion of this subject in the arbitration case to be submitted to the Hague Tribunal, but both parties agree to submit to the Hague Tribunal tho interpretation of the treaty of 1818.
