BOROUGH LOAN PROPOSALS

(To tub Editor.] Sir, —In reading “Some Ratepayers’ Opinions” in your issue of to day on the above beading, you nave evident!\ gone out oi your wuy to outain Opinions .from those opposed to progression. In the iirst place vou give some opinions f rom Captain "W. M. Tucker, who evidently is adverse to any oi Mr. Lysuai s .schemes. Captain Tucker must know bv this time that you cannot make, or reform, roads out of revenue. Une has only to look at the Coo's Comity fiuanees for proof of tins, ami I relieve that Captain Tucker is chairman of that Council. As to “the opinions of Heads of various financial firms, one gentleman says that we cannot stand an increase in rates—what is an extra shilling or two in the £ for a good sewage sell onio compared witli the fees chaiftcd by some of our local doctors? Take again the water scheme —which I adnut. is not perfect—but who of the ratepayers would he without it ioi double the rate ? I, like some other ratepayers, could do without the drainage as I have all I want, but I maintain that wo should ho progressive—a thing we have, neglected in the past. t I trust the ratepayers will look upon the proposals in a broad-minded wav and not be led away by some oi our non-progressives.—l am. etc.

[Onr reporter merely selected lor interview those gentlemen whose opinions .seemed entitled to carry weight and obviously, could not_ know beforehand the nature of their re-

plies. J.t'is our desire Ito f ygfitijate .. fully all 'shades of opinion 1— Ed. “Times.”!
