RECREATION FOR YOUNG MEN.

[To the EniTon.] Sir, —In viewing the streets of Gisborne of an evening, one of. the foremost -and most vivid scenes that flash before the eye is that of the crowd of respectable young men who, for the time being, (apparently have no motive in view, and further that the time seems to be a great obstacle in their way, and that the mode of coping with it in the evenings has not is yet reached a satisfactory basis for them. Such no doubt is the impresion formed in the minds of-many. Now, Mr. Editor, may I crave permission for w little of your valuable .pace, in which I shall endeavor to dace before all those so interested amethod of not- only coping with their spare time, but even doing so to a decided /advantage to themselves, and. ilso promoting the welfare of an institution inaugurated solely for the benefit of our' Gisborne young men, nid which on that- account claims i>.c support of the public at largo. 4he institution T. refer to is the Alhambra. Club, and having been. Interested in -the workings of the club- for some considerable time and knowing the good effect's resulting from the careful and untiring efforts of many -.-r its members in bringing the same to a. successful issue, 1 thought by bringing it before the eyes di the public through the columns of your paper I would not only be doing a justice . to those energetic members, but also to those who lire unaware of the fact that such an institution exists. This institution is nun on the best of Sues, wth always that one great object in view, to promote the welfare of our fellow beings and to bring together one large and happy family as brothers. Games -of all sorts such as are not detrimental to the intellect of any young man may be indulged, in ; ia * reading room well with magazines, papers, books, , etc., of the datest editions is at your disposal, along with a good piano anil plenty of music. The entrance fee for members is a comparatively small one indeed, all tbit is asked of one . jii Hie wav of subscription is tne small amount of 7s 6d per annum, which entitles you to participate m every privilege whch the club affords. A caretaker is always in attendance, and any wants or information sought after bv members »ire at once attended to. * Now. Air. Editor, in endearorinsc to bring tins matter before the eyes'”of the .public, I hope I nave ni some degree been successful m enlightening many on that hard-tclt want of how to spend their evenings in a respectable and profitable way, and hoping I have not trespassed too f„v ~u year ™h.aU=
