The Californian House of Representatives read a third time a Bill prohibiting Japanese holding land. NEW YORK, Jan. 19. President Roosevelt, addressing the Methodists’ Jubilee, insisted that the recent agreement with Japan had achieved a completely satisfactory solution of all difficulties between the two countries. Only the Federal Government was able to properly deal with such questions. The intervention of unwise, foolish men would only jeopardise an arrangement which was working well.

NEW YORK, Jan. 20
President Roosevelt, in a telegram to Mr. Gillett, Governor of California, obtained a delay in action in regard to the proposed anti-Japanese legislation pending tlie receipt of a letter. The telegram added,, “The Government is greatly concerned as to the reports on' the subject. My knowledge of the international situation satisfied me that the legislation proposed would do an incalcuable damage both to California and the whole union.”
