STUD SHEEP.
VALUABLE IMPORTATIONS. By three steamers from south yesterday ia large number of valuable stud sheep arrived in Gisborne for various settlers .in the district. Included in the consignments, which totalled about 450, was a line lot of 360 Romney and Leicester rams, purchased in the south by Mr. J. L. Perry, of Wuimata, on behalf of himself and other sheepfarmers. The sheep wore- well-grown, well-woolleil, and in excellent condition. They included 40 Leicestershire sheep, purchased from Messrs Slack Bros., of Palmerston North, and Nelson Bros., Tomoana. The remainder, 225, were two-toOlh Romneys, purchased, from Mr. Rowland, the well-known Longburn breeder. They were distributed as follows: Ormerod and Bartram, Ponawa, 40; Boys, Tiniroto, 50 ;Hognrty, Mangatu, 50; Iveson, Wbavekopac, 20; Laugdon, Waimata, 20; Dlmmock, To Karaka ,10. Another nice lot were the 175 Romney rams landed by Dalgoty mid Co. for different clients, 'and bred by Air. J. Biddels, of Wairarapu. A further consignment of Romneys was landed •by Williams and Kettle for Mr. F. V. Williams, and the same firm also handled a line of 75 Sonthdowns for Messrs .Nelson Bros., Ltd. The Sonthdowns were bred by Air. .T. Brooks, the wel-knoWn Canterbury breeder, and they landed in good order after their voyage.

Fenwick said that the more people went in for this class of sheep the larger would be the export trade from this district, as thoy were undoubtedly, in his opinion, the coming sheep for the fat lamb trade. A valuable-Romney ram .also came to hand, consigned to Mr. J. C. Field. The sheep is >an almost perfect type of his class, land is the winner of main prizes in the show ring. He won the championship at 'Palmerston North, heating an English imported sheep that won the championship at the Poverty Bay show, At - the 1 almorston North show lie won ill add'" tiou to tlio clianipioiiship the 'Short 100-wuineas challenge cup, Quibell Bros!’ cihallenge cup, and the last clipping ihe yielded 201ib oi wool. Taken right through all the sheep landed yesterday were of a high dlass and will undoubtedly prove a valuable addition to the flocks of Poverty Bay.
