THE WAIROA OARNIVAL—SECOND DAY. (Press Association.) WAIROA, Jan. 20. The second day’s racing was well patronised. The racing was distinctly good, and the acceptances excellent for nearly every event, but as on the previous day there was a groat deal of trouble in starting tile events. The weather was extremely warm, but not unpleasant. In the Electric Handicap a hank outsider pulled off the event. The 'amount put through the totalisatox was £2460. The following are the results of the racing: Awatere Hack Handicap. —Miss Rexer 1, Mistletoe 2, War at all 3. Also started: Pluck, Gladsmuir, Albert, Wiater-oGMilk. Time, lmin "33 4-osec.

Hack Scurry Handicap.—Steady 1, Captain Jingle 2, Kaitakora 3. Also started-.Rerehau, Waiver©, Highflyer, Moonlight. Time, 52 l-osec. Carroll 'Memorial Stakes. —Paisano 1, Prince Hassfin 2, Nero 3. A grand race, aid the horses being in a cluster in the straight. Time, lmin 45 2-5 sec. ,

The Water Carnival commences tomorrow. The town presents an animated appearance, and there are two picture shows, Maori dances, land a great number of side, shows.

THE WELLINGTON RACES. BLUE RIBBON WINS THE CUP. (Press Association.) WELLINGTON, J.an. 20. The weather was fine and the attendance large, and the track in excellent condition for the opening of the summer meeting of the Racing Club.' The success of Blue Ribbon in the Cup was very popular, as she was a strong second favorite. ' Gold Crest started in the Telegraph Hantlibut ran unplaced, Tumut effecting a surprise. The following are the results :

Trentham Welter Handicap.—Flingot 9.1, 1; Osiris 9.9, 2; Parable 8.0, 3. Also started: Knight Commander, Aorangi, Tauriu. Aorangi led to the distance, where Fliugot and Osiris put in their claim, the former winning by (a nose. Time, lmin 44 4-ssec.

Anniversary Handicap.—Merrie Zealand 8.6, 1; Kurawaka 8.3, 2: Prism 8.8, 3: Also started: San Fernando. Won easily by a length. Time, lmin £4sec. Also started : Cold Crest, Penates, Pull Rate, Cold Beater, Mon Amd, Woodhey. Armlet led to within a few yards of the post, where Tumut put in a good run, winning by a long heck.
