NEW ZEALAND TOURNAMENT. [Pbess Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 20. For the* third day of the New Zealand tournament the weather remained gloriously fine, and the morning was a splendid one for bowlers. A bright day,- with the sun’s heat tempered by a brisk easterly breeze,' made playing a pleasure, llie greens under the twin drying influences were keener than they were yesterday and played well, thoiigh here and there were signs of the wear and tear that follow a tournament’s wake. The seventh round of the rinks tournament was concluded at 7 o’clock in the morning, and the section ties were played off on the Canterbury green later. At 12.30 the doubles tournament was commenced on seven greens, Sunnyside and Opawa being used in (addition to the five city greens to provide space for the nine sections into which the competing pairs are divided. The section winners and ties arc as follows: Section 1: Clinton (Nelson), with 6 wins, won the section. Section 2: United (Star), with 0 wins, won the section. Section 3: Christchurch (MacDougall) won the section with 6 wins and 1 loss. • Section 4: Wellington (Ballinger), with 6 wins, won the section. Section 5: Kaitua (Sanders) heat Dunedin (McLaren) by 20 ip 14, winning 5 games and losing 2. Section 6: Gore (Ingram) won the section with 6 wins and 1 loss. Section 7: Greennieadows. (Crowley) with 6 games won the section. Section 8: Victoria (Barry) won all 7 games, winning the section. Section 9: In the play-off Caledonian (Keast-)- 23 beat Kaituim (Payne) 18, and won' the section, each rink having won 6 section games. The winners of the nine sections will compete in the final games of the rin'k championship. In order to make an oven draw seven byes were given in: the first roud, and the winners of the remaining two sections were selected by ballot to play off in the other game. T’,? result was that United (Star) beat Wellington (Ballinger) by 25 to 15. The following -will represent the South Island in the iiitei-Association match against the North Island, which will be commenced to-morrow at 2.30 on the United green:—Kaituna: Payne, Smith,, Scott, Jacobsen.
