WESTPORT UNEMPLOYED.
REQUESTS TO THE GOVERNMENT. [Press Association.] WESTPORT, Jan. 21. At a meeting of unemployed, some 200 present, held in the Town Hall to-night, a statement was made by the president of the Westport Labor Union that 500 people were unemployed in and about Westport, largely as the result of the stoppage of the Harbor Board’s works. It was resolved to urge the Minister of Public Works to provide speedy employment- in constructing the W estpo tInangohua Junction railway, and to urge the County Council to get what works it could in hand, also to urge the Government to take the labor bureau out of the hands of-tlie police, making another appointment of Inspector of Factories and Labor Bureau.'
