■Yesterday saw a great gathering of bowlers oni the green of the Turnnganui Club, one of the. largest of the season. The smoke of the bush fires was unpleasant, but did not interfere with play. The rinks played very keen. Some interesting ipractieo and match games were played. A number of ladies wore present. Afternoon tea was provided by Mrs D. McSkimming, who .was' assisted by Mrs Cowell and Miss L. Power, the refreshments being much appreciated. The following arc the results of the match games:

Somervell and Sawyer (skip) 22 beat McSkimming and Neill .(skip) 14. The former pair assumed the lead and were never seriously troubled, the last head showing Sawyer 22 to 11. Neill received a handicap of 3 points, and thus suffered defeat by 8 points. (B Section.)

The! wall 'arid Jeune (skip) 29, beat Anderson, and Balkan (skip) 20. On the 15th head both teams were level — 14 all. The final head, however, showed Jeune 22 to 20, aind his pair receiving 7 points of a handicap, thus obtained victory by 9 points.

. BENNETT OUP. AY. J . P. Ganelin (20) bent M. G. Nasmith, sour: (11). The scores were level on the 7th head —5 all, but from this point Gaudiai gradually drew away, winning eventually by 9 points. J. Somervell (20) beat- M. A. Neill (16). Somervell led his opponent on the lltli head by 13 to 6, but the latter drew level on the lltli head — 14 all. Again on the 19th head the scores w-ere level, 16 each, but Somervell obtained a 3 and a I, and won Jby 4 points. B. Bird (22) beat AY. J. P. Gaud in (11). On the 4th head Bird was 3 to 2 ; on the lltli head he was .15 to 3, and eventually won easily by 11 points. The Handicap Pairs are to be completed by to-morrow afternoon, when the winners of the various sections are to be declared.

GISBORNE CLUB. The .attendance at the Gisborne Club’s green yesterday lafternoon was large, and some enjoyable play took place. Only one match game >is to be recorded, Fiat being in the handicap singles, Paltridgo beating R. G. Crawford by 21 to 15. Tihe other matches ployed resulted as follows:

MATCH AT AVAIROA. A private tolcgrta.ni was received yesterday afternoon -stating that a. team of Gisborne howlers played a match -at AVairoa against a local team during the dl.iy, and won by .10 to 18. It is understood that the Gisborne team consisted of -D. J. Barry, J. F. Pettie, J. A. Lucas, -ancl J. J. Martin (skip).

Caledonian (Keast) 24, beat Clinton (Sheddan) 15. . Victoria -(Barry) 22, beat Christchurch (MacDougall) 21. The decisive defeat of Clinton by Caledonian was one of the surprises of the tournament.
