THE WAIROA CARNIVAL.

A SUCCESSFUL AGRICULTURAL SHOW. [Press Association.] AVALR OA, Jau. 22. The third annual show of the AVairoa Agricultural and Pastoral Society was held to-day in magnificent wotther. The .attendance was very large and the interest keen all round. The parade showed 03 horses. The champion draught stallion was Mr. V aiighan’s Gem-o’-Benmoro, the champion mare Mr. Vaughan’s Daphne. The prize for tin' champion Shorthorn bull was awarded to Messrs Powdrell and Sens, for tlnp champion Shorthorn cow Mr. E. Vaughan, the. champion Lincoln ram Air. Hunter Brown, the champion Lincoln ewe Messrs Powdrell and Sons, the champion Romney rain and Romney ewe Mr. J. H. Brown, champion dog Air,. J. .Alackay. in draught horses, Air. Jefferson took four firsts, and Mr. Vaughan four firsts. Light horse prizes were fairly divided. IK ir ness horses were both numerous and good. In cattle. Messrs Hunter ißrown, Powdrell, and Vaughan divided the honors. In sheep the principal winners were Messrs J. H. Brown, Powdrell, and Jefferson. . The various competitions were keenly contested. For ladies’ _ driving Mrs. Richter gained first prize; 'tdr -gentlemen’s ■driving. Air. P. Crvir was first. Wood-chopping: AA r son 1, Mata Taw a 2, J. E. Long 3. Horse shoeing (five entries). Christenson 1. shearing (five entries), Hav kins 1, C. Mansfield 2, S. Hawkins 3.' Exhibits’ in the horticultural division were very good, -and the prizes fairly evenly divided. The show of potatoes was remarkably-good. Home industries were not so well represented, but what there was were very good. The marquee was not liaL large enough. The children’s division (public schools) was well represented ind the work was fairly good Taken all round carnival week ha; been most enjoyable and successful.
