PERSONAL.
Mr. J. D. Bachelor, of Palmerston North, is in Gisborne at present. The Rev. L. Dawson Thomas, accompanied by Mrs. Thomas, leaves on Saturday for Sydney on a month’s holiday. Mr. Guy Porter, of To Arai Valley, returned to Gisborne yesterday after a visit to tho Old Country, extending over eleven months. Mr. J. B. Clarkson, of Christchurch, head of the well-known firm of Messrs J. B. Clarkson and Co., was in Gisborne yesterday. v Mr David E. Dustin, late of Gisborne and now of Palmerston North, was married the other day to Miss Louisa Reid Cromhie, of Auckland. Mr. Tlios. Morrison, for thirty years a resident of Gisborne, left for Auckland yesterday morning. Prior to his departure he was invited to the Harbor Board Office, where His Worship tho Mayor, Messrs Jas. Brown, C. Adair, J. Stewart, J. Ormond, J. Chrisp, Foster, Townley, Pettie, Lawrenceand Miller had gathered together to bid liim farewell. The Mayor, on behalf of those present, presented Mr. Morrison with a purse containing thirty sovereigns, and expressed a hope for his prosperity wherever he might be. . He also referred to Mr. Morrison’s long connection with public matters in Gisborne, and assured liim that his services in this direction had been well appreciated. Mr. Morrison briefly replied, wishing his many friends farewell, and said that he would always have the most pleasant recollections of his associations with them all in Gisborne. „ ®
