NEW SOUTH WALES TREASURER’S COMPLAINT.
EXPLOITING THE MARKET. United Press Association. Copyright SYDNEY, Feb. 4. Tlie Treasurer, in a speech at Grafton, complained that New Zealand and other States were exploiting the market by selling their stocks up to 4 per cent. The Government had not increased the rate of interest paid on stock issued by the Treasury, realising the vital importance to traders and others' of keeping the interest rates low. If a neighboring 'Government continued to exploit the market by outbidding them in the rates of interest they might be forced in self-defence to raise the rates.
