BANK OF AUSTRALASIA.

NEW BUILDINGS TO BE ERECTED

Building Operations'Ll Gisborne have, been advancing by leaps and bounds during the past year or two, and the next addition to the many handsome buildings already in existence will be a new structure for the Bank of Australasia. The proposed site is in Gladstone Road, between the Albion Hotel and the New Zealand Loan nad Mercantile Co.'s building. The old buildings at present on the site are to be pulled down almost immediately, and the work of erecting the new structure begun. Tenders are being called to-day, closing on the 23rd inst., and the building is to be completed inside eight months. Messsr Crichton and McKay, of Wellington, are the architects, and the plans and .specifications which are to hand show that tbo new structure, is to be a handsome two-storey one in brick, finished in piaster, and highly ornamental. The ground floor will he taken up by the main banking chamber, manager’s room, and up-to-dato lavatory arrangements. There will also be a small room for the purpose of keeping stationery, etc., and provision is also made for a commodious strong-room at the rear of the front office. The office fittings will be of an elaborate nature, and each of the officers will have separate quarters. The second floor will comprise a suite of five offices, which will he let, and on this floor accommodation is also provided for the clerks residing on the premises. Tlioro will be bedrooms, sittingroom, and a bath-room and lavatory, and the arrangements for ventilation, lighting, and drainage, of the premises are excellent. Ornamental steel coil-: ings will bo used on the ground floor apartments, and the vestibule is to Ijo floored, with the most modern tiles. Altogether the,building promises to he one of the most up-to-date that lias been erected in the town.
