Tlie following acceptances have been received by the secretary (Mr. D. It. DeCosta) for the principal events at the annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Turf Club, to be held at! IMPROVEMENTS AT THE COURSE. The Poverty Bay Turf Club have further improved their course for the annual meeting which takes place on Thursday and Friday. For the outside public a large new grandstand cajiable of seating about 600 people has been erected, and will he open to patrons without extra, charge. Underneath the stand is a large diningroom, while retiring rooms for ladies and children have also been fitted up. The grandstand enclosure lias been well attended to. The. lawn lias been kept Constantly watered, and the sward is in admirable-condition. The. stewards’, press, and handicapper’s rooms have been renovated, and new conveniences added, while a washbasin lias been provided in the jockeys’ room. The course, is in excellent order. The turf is closely grown, and as the track is an ideal dry weather track, some excellent racing and fast times should he obtained. The large trees at the rear of the stand will afford ample, shelter for luncheon parties, and,' in general, patrons will find the arrangements of the Makaraka course greatly improved. The number board lias been removed to a position 'on the flat, directly in front of the grandstand, and it can he seen from any part of either enclosure without effort. GISBORNE RACING CLUB. Also started: Caspian 7.7 and Ormolu 7.3. Sharpshooter and Ormolu were quickest to move, and led into the straight. At the distance Ormolu was beaten, and Sharpshooter won by a length from Broadsword, who was a neck in front of 'Sweet Angelus. Time., lmin 14 4-ssec.
