PERSONAL.

Hon. A. T. Ngata, who has been for some weeks recuperating at Ids home near Port Awanui, has returned to Gisborne. He leaves for Wairoa to-morrow morning.

Captain Benton, lately in command of the U.S.S. Co.’s Squall, has been transferred to the command of the company’s Hauroto, in the Eastern Pacific service. Captain Ross, late chief officer of the s.s. Mokoia. has assumed command of the. s.s. Squall. Mr. A. D .McDonald, the Australian oil-boring expert, accompanied by Mr- D. J. Barry, left for Wliatatutu yesterday morning to make arrangements for commencing operations at the works of the Gisborne Oil Company.

Dr. Vi Ropa, who is suffering from typhoid foyer at the hospital, is said to bo making satisfactory progress. Vice-CaptainjLacey, 'recently in command of the U.S.S. Co.’s Monowai, has received tho appointment of assistant-harbormaster and pilot at Auckland.

Mr. T. H. Johnson, district- manager for Hawke’s Bay for the National Mutual Life Association, who lias been in Gisborne for a few days, left overland yesterdav for Napier.

Major McKenzie, editor of the New Zealand War Cry, has been appointed editor of the Australian War Cry, and has left, via the. Bluff, for Melbourne.

The Rev. Father Ormond, a relative of Mr. J. Ormond, of Pool Street, alls been appointed to assist the Rev. Father Lane in St, Mary's Catholic Church. He is expected'to arrive in Gisborne by the end of this week. Father Ormond is a New Zealander, but was educated in -Ireland and Rome.

-T • Cronin, representing Wests’ Pictures and Orchestral Band, lias arrived in Gisborne to make arnangements for tho opening of his company on Monday next, 22nd inst. Colonel MTvie, Commissioner of the Salvation Army for Australasia, - has received definite instructions to leave Melbourne on May IS for the Old Land. Colonel MTvio received notice of transfer last year, and held farewell meetings in New Zealand, but the order was afterwards revoked. It is just- possible he may visit the Dominion before his departure in May.
