HAWKE’S BAY LAND BOARD.
MEETING AT NAITEH. The Hawke’s Bay Land Board met at Napier on Friday, there being present: the. Commissioner (Mr, H. Trent), Messrs T. Hyde, R. R. Groom, and E. Lane. A quantity of correspondence was dealt with and a- letter was received from Eustace Lane having reference to Departmental rent notices. —It was decided, on the motion of Mr Lane, seconded by Mr llyde, “That the Board ask the Minister to take into consideration the advisableness of altering the law so that Crown tenants may receive 10 per cent, rebate. on current rents notwithstanding any arrears.” The Crown lands ranger reported on subdivisions of small grazing run No. xr. v-.i— !-j. u:,.,was decided to offer unuer the optional system. The Wairoa County Council applied to band over Li3l 17s lid accrued “thirds” and “fourths” to the district engineer for expenditure on Ilie load leading down the Nuliaka river from the Maraenui road. —Detailed scheme of expenditure to lie submitted and is satisfactory to be approved. The following applications to transfer were approved:—S. F. Burdett to W. T. Allen, small grazing run No. 92, Motu 'and Tokomaru survey districts; T. J. Torrey to R. C. Toney, section 3. block 12, Norsewood; J. Rowclen to R. Sinton. section 65, Timroto village; A. J. Tobin to E. Power, section 1, block 12, I amaki village; A. J. Ingley to J. Hart, section 3, block 5, Waipuknrau; A. E. Ramlose to S. C. 6. Ramlose. section 21, block 13, Opoiti: R. and R. Wilson, junr., to R. Wilson junr., section 5, block
13. Waipukurau. The application- of W. Graham, junr. to -sub-lease section 1, block 2. Xgatapa to W. D. Wilkinson was approved. . A somewhat peculiar application came before the meeting.. A settler wrote- stating that his wife had deserted him and lie asked that a section which -was in her name should be transferred to him. He expressed himself as willing to pay the arrears in rent but stated that his wife had secured £2OO from the Advances to Settlers’ Department and had taken the half of this amount with her. The monev was borrowed on the that "it should be used in improving the section -and he asked that Ins wife should be made to use it for this purpose. The Board decided that it had gno power to interfere in the matter unless the wife applied to transfer the section, which, one member remarked, she was not likely to do. MiLane remarked, “If a man cannot manage his wife lie cannot expect the Land Board to manage her for lnm.
