ROWING.
POVERTY BAY CLUB. Throe of the heats for Mr P H Ural ham’s gold, modal for the single sculls were .rowed ou the Waimata course' last evening, and resulted as follows:—J. Scott (24sec) v. L. 0. Nicolas (27see). —Scott beat Ins man very easily. A. Kirk (17scc) v. J. Stuart (16sec). —Ivirk won easily. S. Leger (24sec) v. F. E. I’orter (21scc). —Leger won after a very good race. J. O’Neill (2oscc) won bis heat by 'do-* fault.
The boats this evening will bo between A. Pritchard (losec) and W. J. Parker (20sec), C. Winter (13sec) and J. Webb (19sec), G. Scents (oosec) and R. Wilkinson. (14sec). GISBORNE CLUB. The races for the trophies presented by Mr. C. Morse were commenced last night, when two heats were rowed on the AYaimata river. Grinlinton’s crew and Rowe’s were the first out. There was an even start, bat after going a short ldistance Rowe, led by half-a-length. G-rinlinton drew level at Harris’ bend, and iat the Haiti bridge led by half-a-lengtli. Ro.we here spurted, and his crew, pulling well together, overhauled their opponents, and won after a. splendid finish by a bare half-length. Buscke’s crew and Butler’s were the next contestants. Buscke led from the start, land was never troubled, winning easily by a clear length. To-night three further heats will be rowed.
