THE GISBORNE MARATHON RACE. Keen interest is being taken in tlie coming “Marathon” race from Ormond to Gisborne, which takes place next Thursday afternoon. [Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 17. The Canterbury centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, at & meeting to-night, consideied a resolution forwarded by the Christchurch Council to the effect that the interests of sport would be best served by leaving the conduct of the 1909 championship meeting to the Otago centre. After discussion, it was agreed by four to three .That, after carefully considering the resolution forwarded by the Council in Christchurch, this centre decides that one championship meeting will be in the best interests of athletics, and agrees to forego its claim to the championship meeting m Christchurch and decides to send a team to Dunedin on March 20, but this centre does not recognise the Wellington Executive as the body controlling the championship to he held at Dunedin.
