AUCKLAND TRADES COUNCIL'S PROTEST. [Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Feb. 17. Several of the immigrants who arrived by the Fifed)ire yesterday, who have not secured employment so far, complain bitterly of the misrepresentations which they allege are made. at Home, regarding the ease with which employment may be obtained in the Dominion. The representatives of local labor unions also state that there is no room here for more workers. Most classes of trade are already Mack. At the meeting of the Trades anu Labor Council to-night the Government's immigration policy was stronglv condemned. It was decided to appoint a deputation to wait on the Prime Minister and place the facts before him: to send a warning to the chairman of the British Labor Representation Committee of the House of Commons against immigrants coming out here; to c-ad an indignation meeting at the earliest- possible moment; and to request the Government to stop assisted immigration for at least ono vear.
