THE BAND CONTEST.
EXCELLENT ENTRIES. [Press Association.] HASTINGS, Feb. 18. Notwithstanding the troubles tlie North Island Brass Bands’ Association have had recently, the contest commencing iat Hastings next Monday, in the number of entries, compares more than favorably with last year s contest at New Plymouth. Ten bands compete in the “A” and “B” grades. There are fourteen entries for tnc quartette competition; B flat trombone 11, B flat cornet 21, soprano cornet 8, euphonium 13, trombone ti io 9, flugel horn 5, E flat bass 10, B flat bass 4, BB bass 14, trombone 8, E flat horn 11, and baritone 11.
The following are the items to be played by the soloists of the Gisborne City Band at the. contest:— Euphonium solo, W. Harris, Rocked in the Cradle of the Deep” ; baritone solo -W. McKenme, “Wiedekar” ; double B , P. Morris, “Ponderous” ; single B, C. E., Clayton, “Assault Musical’’ : otiphoniVm, A. Sebire, “Annie Laurie” ; flugel horn, J, McConnell. “Pearl of the Ocean” ; quartette, “Rienzi,” H. Torrens, C. Williams, G. Douglas, and W. Harris.
