THE WOOL SALES.
SMALL CA TA LOG U ES—KEEV COMPETITION. The periodical sale of wool, skins hides, and tallow, under the auspices of the Gisborne Wool brokers' Association, was held yesterday. There were five buyers present: Messrs Warnock (Warnock Bros.. Auckland) G. Kea-rsley (Murgatroyd and Co.’ Auckland), and Messrs W. H. Smith* Tidsweli, end G. Arnold (M. p’ .... Bourke and Co.), Gisborne. The catalogues offered were small, -but with the exception of fleece -wool, sold well, competition being much keener than at the last sale. The following were the catalogues submitted by the different firms: Messrs Williams and Kettle: Wool, 381 bales a'nd pockets; skins, 1078: hides, 109: tallow ,51 packages. New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.: Wool, 10 bales, 7 fadges, and 4<J bags': skins. 538; hides, 37; tal-/ low, 3i packages. Messrs Bennett j and Sherratt: Wool. 37 bales. 10 fadges, and 21 bags: skins, 406: hides, 17; tallow, 2 packages. Dalgety and Co.: Wool, 16 bales and 13 bags; skins, 222; hides, 14; tallow. 6 packages. Messrs Common, Shelton and Co.: Wool. 32 bales, 79 pockets. 13 bags, 2 fadges: .skins. 257. Total: Wool, 482 bals, 90 pockets. 19 radges, and G2 bags; skins. 2501: hides, 237; tallow. 90 packets. Messrs Williams and Kettle, who sold first, report- that the sale was much brighter than the last sale. The majority of the fleece wool they offered was passed in, and the following prices—were realised: Fleece wool Old to 6|d, bellies and pieces up to 4’d, erutchings 3d to ltd. locks 2§d to 3d, dead up to 6|d. Skins sold up to old. heavy hides {freezers) 26s 6d, rough station hides -ikl lb, and tallow 21s cwt. Messrs Dalgety and Co. also report a better sale with brighter competition. Very little of the flecc-e wool offered was disposed of, but- _ there was a good demand for skins, tne prices realised showing a slight advance on those obtained at the last sale. j Their catalogue realised the prices: Fleece wool ofd. bellies and pieces 4-id? erutchings 4d, locks 3d. dead wool, 44d to 4fd. skins 3fd to old, pelts lid to Is 3d, hides 3’d t-> 4}d. tallow 20s cwt. . Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. sol'd next, and quote the following prices: Rough fleece wool ofd to 64d. locks 2fd to 3d, well-saved station skins from 4fd to 5 id. medium sorts 44-d. and belts fid to Bd. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report as follows: "There was a* fair' assortment offered. Prices were fair, and in sym- _) pathy with London figures. Our prices were: Fleece wool 6{d to 6fd, bellies and pieces 3ld to 4pi. erutchings 3fd to 4d, locks 2fd to 3d, dead wool 4fd to Gd. lambs 4-kl tojS-id. skills 24d for inferior sorts to od for better classes, pelts 3d and 4d. station hides 2gd t-o 4d. tallow ISs to 21s cwt. Messrs Bennett and Sherratt sold the whole of their offering at- the following prices: Fleece wool up to 6id. locks 3d, pieces 4{d. erutchings 4d, bellies 4kl. skins up to old. hides up to 4§d, tallow 18s cwt.
