WELLINGTON WOOL SALES

(Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 19. The amended figures for the offering of the Wellington wool sales, which opened this afternoon, are as follows: Dalgety and Co. -3900 bales. Levin and Co. 3000, Murray, Roberts and C’o. 2000, New Zealand Loan and Mercan- ■-“% tile Agency Co. 1950, Abraham and Williams 14-50, United Farmers' and Wairarapa Farmers’ 2-58. Total. 13,0-58. Buyers have been bard at work at the various stores valuing from six o'clock this morning, not even leaving the stores for lunch. They went on close tip to the hour of the sale. As the catalogues are not expected to be got through before the small hours of to-morrow, the visitors will have a -fairly long day’s work before they finish* They* will be off again to-morrow night,"or at latest on Monday night, for the Christchurch sales, to be held on Tuesday. Considering the importance that the Wellington sales have assumed, it is a question whether the Buyers’ Associations will not have to give serious consideration to the matter of time allowed for the sales. The size of the local wool sales of late indicates that in time to come buying will be restricted to the four centres of the Dominion, and this will give buyers more time,to spare. The Tallies realised were most satisfactory for crossbreds and finer qualities. The prices of last sale were well maintained, and where there was a difference it was all in the sellers’ favor. Lambs’ wool showed a very sat- * 'isfactory appreiation in value, bright, superior wools of this description making an advance of from Id to lid a •pound above the prices at last sales. Medium lambs’ wool showed an improvement of l]d a pound. Prices generally were fd a pound better value. Generally- the tone of the market was considerably stronger. The quantity of New Zealand wool exported for the season Ist July to 31st January, according to return® : prepared by Messrs Dalgety and Co., is 261,009 bales, an increase of 42.111 "bales over the corresponding period of last year.
