JUVENILE COURT.

BEFORE AIR. BARTON, S.M, Friday, February 19.

At a short sitting of the-Juvenile Court two young girls were brought u]> on charges of theft. The first of them, a girl of 14 years, was charged with stealing jewellery at the Garrison Hall last week and pleaded guilty. The father of the girl said that it was the first act of dishonesty lie had known his daughter to commit. She had a stepmother, hut their relations were not too amicable, and lie intended to send the girl to Melbourne, where his parents lived. His Worship admonished the girl severely, and, —obtaining a promise from her not to offend again, convicted and discharged her. The other girl was then brought forward. She was 16 years of age, and the charge against her was ono o) stealing a gold watch, valued at 10s, from the room of a ladv "ho lodged at her parents.’ house. The girl’s father said that ho "a, a .rood deal away from home, and couTd not look after the gir over whom her mother had no control. Sero't. Hutton said that tho girl was constantly walking about the streets and speaking to men. _ His 'Worship severely reprimanded the girl for her conduct, and remanded the ease for - two months in order that her conduct during that period should be noted.
