THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S INACTION. CANNOT CONTRIBUTE TO A SUBSIDY. United Press Association, Copyright MELBOURNE, Feb. 20. The Federal Government has communicated with Dr Boulter, represen- ■= tative of the Canadian . Postal Department, expressing appreciation of the. Canadian Government’s sending him to Australia in connection with tbo All Red Route. It recognises the importance of rapid communication with Canada, and the desire of two great parts of the Empire, but regrets ■ that in the present state of finance .it will be unable to concur in the proposal for a subsidy. It adds: “When ■ the financial limitations imposed by the constitution are -removed it will be in a better position to deal with the subject. As to appointing a representative to> a conference of the Governments interested, owing to the absence of the Prime Minister and other ‘Ministers from Melbourne it is not possible to give a definite reply. „ TORONTO, Feb. 19. Canada is making great arrangements for appreciation of the All-Red route.
