GISBORNE CLUB. The semi-final in the four-oared races for Mr. C. Morse’s trophies was rowed on Saturday evening, when O. Hansen’s crew boat G. Busckc’s by a length after a good race. The final takes place to-night, Hansen’s crew meeting G. Pufiett’s. As bofch of these crews are rowing well a good race is anticipated. POVERTY BAY CLUB. Tlxe single sculling races for Mr. P. H. Graham’s medal were continued on Saturday evening. S. Doig (20sec) and S. Ledger (28 sec) were the first pair to go out. The result of the race was never in doubt, Doig winning easily. A. Kirk (ITsec) and C. Winter (13sec) next tried conclusions. Kirk made the most of his start, but Winter caught him at Dr. Williams’ bend. At the Ivaiti bridge Kirk spurted and drew level, but Winter drew away again, and finally won by a length. The next heat was between J. AV. Nicolas (9see) and J. O’Neill (25sec). The latter, taking full advantage of bis handicap, led until within 50 yards of the winning post, where Nicolas, rowing strongly, overhauled him, and after a splendid finish won by a quarter of a length. The third round wnl be rowed tonight, the semi-finals to-morrow night, and the final on Wednesday night. The draw for to-night’s race is as follows: —C. Winter (13sec) v. S. Doig (20sec), J. AY,. Nicolas (9sec) v. T. J. Parker (25sec), A. Pritchard (losec) v. R. Sceats (oosec).
HAWKE’S BAY REGATTA. [Press Association.] NAPIER, Feb. 21. The Hawke’s Bay Rowing Association’s regatta was held at West Shore yesterday, in fine weather, and before a good attendance. The water was very choppy for the first three races, but then went down. No times were taken. The following were the results : Maiden Fours, 1 mile.—Napier, 1; Union (Napier), 2; Wairoa, 3. The only starters. Won by six lengths. Maiden Sculls, 1 mile.—Gray (Wellington), 1; Brown (Napier), 2; Bonner (Retone), 3. Six starters. Won by two lengths. Youths’ Fours, 1 mile.—Napier, 1; Aramoho, 2; Wellington, 3; Union (Napier) also started. Won by one and a half lengths. Maiden Double Sculls, i mile.—Wellington, 1; Petone,-2; Napier, 3. Union (Napier) also started. Won by a length and a quarter. Junior Sculls, 1 mile.—Cato (Napier Union), 1; Hulbert (Wellington), 2; Brown (Napier), 3. Shirley (Napier) also competed. Gato passed the post- with Hulbert’s boat resting on his canvas. Cato ran. into ,a yacht, and-Hulbert piled his boat on top of Cato’s. • Junior Fours, 1] miles.—Napier No. 1,1; Napier No. 2,2; Aramoho, 3. Wairoa also started. Won by two lengths. , Maiden Pairs, 1 mile.—Wellington, 1; Union (Napier), 2; Napier, 3. Won by half a length. Maiden Fours, 1 mile. Aramoho, 1; Napier, 2; Union (Napier), 3. Won by 10 lengths. ‘Napier’s No. 3 carried away his slide, or the result would have been different. Junior Double Sculls, 1 mile.—Wellington, 1; Union (Napier), 2; Petone, 3. Napier also started. Won by a length ; half a canvas between second and third. Senior Fours, 2 miles.—Napier had a walkover. Junior Pairs v 1 mile.—Aramoho, 1; Napier, 2. Union (Napier) also started. Won. by half a length.
