The Kcv. IS. H. Strong, M.A., Bach Litt., who was educated at .Nelson College, Auckland University, and St. John’s College, Oxford, Is a passenger by tbe Monowai this morning to Auckland, where he is a.ssum,’ng a position in St. John’s College. Mr. W. W. Smith, of Waitaria, Patutahi, who has been indisposed, is making a good recovery. Dr. Buckeridge, recently of Gisborne, is now practising in Wellingv , tom '~V Mr. G. How Chow, formerly owner 7 of the Karaka Hotel, whose dotation by Chinese brigands excited Sonic interest here, purposes to return to Gisborne, in the near future. The amount of ransom which was extorted from him before he obtained his release was a very considerable sum. Mr. Beckett, of-. Te Ararca, has go no to Auckland on a holiday trip. Colonel Davies, Inspector-General »f the New Zealand Defence Forces, with Lieutenant Chesney, his stair officer, is to arrive in Gisborne from Auckland to-dav.
