ROWING.
THE WORLD’S CHAMPIONSHIP. If, as reported, it is true, that Duruan will give Arnst a match for £SOO aside, allow £2OO expenses, and, in addition, also half tno gate, well, the sooner the champion gets there the better for himself (says tho Sydney “Referee”) for anything softer it would be difficult to imagino.'Bi’lv Fogwoll will meet George Wbelch on Easter Monday at Akaroa. New Zealanders claim their man did not show his true form in his try at Raymond Terrace, N.S.M ~ but Fogweld must be improving, and should be able to give him all he wants — and may be a bit more. Champion Arnst has the Richmond River sculler in hand. Both scullers arc good and game men, and Whelch, on his own water, will assuredly make a big fight of it. According to a writer in the Sydney Referee the match Thorougbgood v. Pearce seems just as far-off as ever, but the present challenge cannot affect the championship of Australia unless Pearce is agreeable to row at Raymond Terrace, in which case the champion would probably get his backing. In any event, as he says, there is no money -in these small matches.
