THE MARATHON RACE.
[To the Editor.] Sir, —A most displeasing feature in regard to tiro Marathon race yesterday was the fact that quite an array of Vehicles, horses, etc., preceded some of the runners, thereby raising the. dust to such an'extent that it was almost impossible to breathe. It is difficult to decide whether the individuals who were responsible, for this merely acted through gross ignorance or were trying to retard certain competitors. One would think that common decency, if nothing else, would have.'prevented such a disgraceful occurrence. _ In a race of such length the' exertion is quite strenuous enough without; anv such needless obstacle. Had the wind been from any other quarter the senseless action of these unsportsmanlike spectators would not have interfered with the result of the race, hut as it was certain runncis had to face this-most disgraceful handicap.-! am, etc., COMpEITIOR<
