ENTERTAINMENTS.
WEST’S PICTURES, A complete change of programme was - presented by the management di the West Picture Show in His M.v ' jesty’s Theatre last night. There was again a fairly largo* audience, and many of the pictures were heartily applauded. As on the preceding "night, a great- variety of-subjects were thrown on the screen, including historical, dramatic, scenic, and humorous films. Among the most striking of the. pictures were “Views of the Canal of Venice,”. “Scenes on the. Cornish Coast,” '“Chinese Pottery Factory,” and a film illustrating the manufacture of Dutch clogs. The humorous films caused roars of laughter. Among the best of them were • “The Professor’s Discovery,” “An • Unfortunate Mistake,” “The Mystified Lover,” and “I Smell Smoke.” J The programme will he repeated tonight, and a -further entire change is promised for to-morrow, the concluding night of the season. Arrangements have been made for a late, train to-morrow night, leaving Gisborne at 10.30 p.in. MISS ROSEMARY REES. Few communities are accorded the •privilege of welcoming cue of their native-born who has attained such •high rank in the literary and theatrical world as Miss Rosemary Rees, whose return to Gisborne after an absence of eight years is ian event of no small importance. The career of this talented writer and actress lias been followed with interest by many in our midst, and the public of Gisborne will doubtless gladly avail themselvet of the opportunity to welcome her - at His Majesty’s Theatre next Wednesday, for it is only a fit- > ting tribute to the position won- by her own efforts in London unaided by i influence or outside help of any kind. I That Miss li'al achieved a leading (position on the English stage is ]>roved by the flattering criticisms that have been accorded her by the London press, and the fact that she has played leading roles with such eminent artists as Mrs Fanny Brough, Mr. and .Mrs. Lewis. Waller, Miss Florence Lloyd, Mr. Fred. Ash, Mr. Walter Melville and others. Since returning to the land of her birth Miss Rees has been offered professional engagements by most of the leading theatrical managers throughout Australia. and only last week had an offer from Messrs Meynell and Gunn to create a part in Australia- now being played .at the London Adolph i by Miss Marie Riguold. As Miss Rees has already accented an engagement with Mr Allan Hamilton, Messrs Meynell and Gunn’s offer had to be declined. The box plan will be opened at Mr. Miller’s a 10 this morn-
