DEPUTATION TO THE PREMIER. MR, ASQUITH REPLIES. United Press Association. Copyright LONDON, Feb. 26. Mr. Asquith, the Prime Minister, told a deputation of the. Trade Union Congress that he favors the payment of candidates’ expenses, but he was undecided as to whether it should come, from local or Imperial funds. The unanimity among working men’s representatives which existed a few years ago regarding payment of members of the House of Commons was. not so apparent. The Government; was considering the unemployment, fund difficulty. Making grants to Trades Unions would at best be contributions used for militant purposes. He. refused a minimum wage of 35s to Government clerks.
