Air. Geo. Miller, of the firm of Miller and Craig, has recovered sufficiently from his recent illness to resume business, and conducted a sale yesterday. . It is understood (says the "'Dominion”) that Air Arthur H. Adams, who controls the Red Page or the “Bulletin.” wil shortly take charge of the “Lone Hand” magazine. Air Fox. who has edited the “Lone Hand” since its birth, has been granted leave of absence, in order to pay a visit to England. . , _. . His Honor Air. Justice Edwards arrived from Auckland yesterday afternoon to preside over the half-yearly sittings of the Supreme Court, which commence this morning. Air. J. R. Lundon. the well-known barrister, from Auckland, arrived in town yesterday on Supreme Court

business. The members of the staff or the “Gisborne Times" met in the office vesterdav afternoon to bid farewell to Air. J. S. Thompson, formerly subeditor of the paper, who is relinquishing iotirnalism in order to follow pastoral pursuits in Queensland. The editor (Air. T. Clarkson) spoke of the esteem in which Air. Thompson was held, both by his colleagues in the office and by his friends in the community. He paid a high . tribute, to Mr. Thompson’s work as a journalist, and expressed the regret- felt by his former colleagues at his departure. On their behalf and his own he wished Air. Thompson success in his new sphere of labor, and. as a tangible expression of their goodwill, presented him with a silver shaving mug, suitably inscribed. Air. O. AY. Exall. on behalf of the literary staff, Air. J. C. E. Turner, for the ’job-printing department. and Air. AI. G. Nasmith, jttnr.. representing the linotype operators. spoke in endorsement of the remarks of Air. Clarkson. Air. Thompson made an appropriate reply, expressing his appreciation of the kindness of his friends in Gisborne, and. especially those in the ‘“Times” office, and his thanks for their good wishes, and for the handsome gift- with which, they were accompanied. Air Thompson left Gisborne by the s.s. Alokoia last night for AYellington, en route for Queensland.
