TO THE ELECTORS OF TH LICENSING DISTRICT OF GISBORNE. ADIES AND GENTLEMEN— As objection seems t have been raised' to the nomination < candidates to the Licensing Commii toe other than those agreed upon bt tween the No-License party and th Licensed Victuallers’ Association, i is necessary that I, as a candidate should explain why I consented to m nomination and the objects I have i view in putting myself forward fo election. They are as follows:. ,1. My purpose is independent o party or individual. 2.1 fail' to agree with the directioi of any party to the main body of elec ! tors as to who shall constitute thei representatives. ■ 3. X fail to agree with the carrying out of -any settled policy, the detail of which the electors at large are no' thoroughly acquainted with. 4. X fail to agree with any policy which has for its object the permission of matters to remain as they are 1 therefore advocate my policy as follows: 1. I want,, if possible, to see the solemn pledges that have been made to improve hotel accommodation carried into effect. 2. I want, if possible, to see the accommodation and management of hotels, in the interests of boarders and travellers, receive more attention than is . devoted to the bar trade. 3. I want, if possible, to see many details attended to that have hitherto been neglected, except in a few instances, viz., fire escapes, suitable housing of employees, etc. 4. I want, if possible, to remove
all ground for. complaint from those ivlio use hotels for their legitimate purpose other than to obtain liquor. 5. I do not, if possible, wish to interfere with the already settled policy as to the hours of closing, and the granting of temporary permits to sell liquor. If the importance of the above objects is apreciated by the electors, as I am sure it will be by those who have to use hotels when .away from home, I may confidently expect to heat no objection- raised to the cost of election, which, after all, is not a valid objection when a question of principle is involved. I remain, Ladies and Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, JAMES CLIVE COLLINS. GISBORNE BOROUGH COUNCIL. SANITATION. NOTICE TO HOUSEHOLDERS AND OTHERS. GENERAL ipILEAN-UP. \JT ENERAL V_y LEAN-UP.
