A SINGULAR FATALITY.
BURSTING OF A DOCK DAM. NINETEEN MEN OVERWHELMED (Received March 8, 12.20 a.m.) LONDON, March 7. During the preparations to admit the water to the almost finished Victoria dock at Birkenhead, a high wind and high tide broke the piles of timber forming the dam. The inrush of water caught nineteen men working in the dock and swept away the platform, and a huge crane which collapsed upon the workmen pinned them down. Five had miraculous escapes.
