AUSTRIA’S INTENTION
RUSSIAN PUBLIC OPINION PESSIMISTIC.

VIENNA, March 8
In view of the reported tenor of Servia’s reply to Russia, Baron Aerenthal intimated. that when Servia assures Austria that her intentions are to maintain peaceful relations, he will be prepared to negotiate for the renewal of the commercial treaty expiring March 31st. He objects to the proposed conference of the Powers until matters have been arranged with Servia.
ST. PETERSBURG, March 8
Although official circles at St. Petersburg arc optimistic, the Russian people are pessimistic, believing that Austria’s aim is to humiliate Servia.
