MEETING OF DIRECTORS

A special meeting oU’the Board of Directors was held last evening, when several matters bearing on the launching of the Forward Movement on modern lines were discussed. _ A special committee is dealing with the question of furnishing, and the Association’s rooms promise to be a bright and attractive social rendezvous for the young men of the town. The feeling of the directors is voiced by one who said: “Me want to make these rooms the cosiest in Australasia.” Among other things, it was decided to -invite the co-operation of the ladies of the town and to form a. ladies’ auxiliary in connection with the Association. A meeting of ladies will be called at an early date. It was definitely fixed that the membership campaign will conclude on 31st March, and that a. gathering of the members be held on Ist April to celebrate the opening of the rooms. A citizens’ reception will also be held. Arrangements are being made for Mr. H. N. Holmes, general secretary of the Wellington Association, to visit Gisborne at the time of the opening functions. A discussion took place as to the standing of athletic clubs connected with the Association, and it was thought that each club should pay its own way, a small entrance fee being fixed so as to provide for working expenses,. The proposed camera club promises to bo jin interesting _ feature. A special dark .room is beihg fitted up, and Mr. W. F. Crawford lias agreed to give a lecture on photography at the inaugural meeting of the chib. The preparation of a syllabus for the Literary and Debating Society is also being taken in hand by the committee. The Association movement at present shows every indication of being carried to a successful issue, and at a membership rally to be liekl this evening the members will be divided into sides, with Messrs Ennor and Dawson as captains, and the color selected which oaeli side will take in the forthcoming red and blue campaign.
