MR. LLQYD-GEORGE RECOVERS DAMAGES. y VITERLY UNFOUNDED STATEMENT^. United Press Association —Copyright. LONDON, March 12. The newspaper “People” apologised and agreed to pay £IOOO for libelling Mr. Lloyd George in an allegation that he paid £20,000 to prevent being sued tor divorce. The “Bystander”’ apologised and paid £3OOO to charity in connection with a similar libel. (Received March 14, 4.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 13. Counsel for the newspaper, ‘‘People” tendered an unqualified apology, and accepted Mr. Lloyd George’s terms for v a verdict.
Air. Lloyd George, in the witness box, said that there was not the slightest foundation for any ol the statemens made by the “People.’' The Judge considered that Air. Lloyd George had acted with extreme moderation.
