Briggs’ Sale of Intoxicating Liquors on Sunday (England) Bill was read a second time by 244 to 49. Mr. Asquith, announced his intention at a later stage to bring it into harmony with the machinery of last year’s Licensing Bill. RETALIATION. MR. WINSTON CHURCHILL’S VIEWS. (Received March 15, 9.53 p.m.) LONDON, March 15. Mr. Winston Churchill, writing to the “Times,” says that his speech at Manchester on June 15th, 1904, contains his views on retaliation. He concludes by saying that the policy of retaliation is merely a convenient verbal cover for the muc-h larger policy of real protection lying behind. TARIFF REFORM LEAGUE. JOSEPH CHAMBERLAIN’S CONGRATULATIONS. (Received March 15, 11.35 p.m.) LONDON, March 15. Mr. Joseph Chamberlain congratulated the Tariff Reform Executive on the fact that Mr. Balfour had for the first time acknowledged the League’s services.
