A Mafia gang at Palermo, in broad daylight, in the public square, YssaGsinated the American detective, Petvosini, who was investigating their connection with the Black Hand organba tio'n. Petrosini defended himself with a revolver, and received many won a Is. He did more than any man in the United States to bring Italian criminals to justice.

Petrosjni’s murder caused a-sensation in Nov/ York, where 23 Black Hand outrages occurred in 1908, including bomb-throwing, arson, and assassination. Apparently a group of blackmailers are using tbe sign of tbe Black Hand, ancl the outrages are not of political origin or aim.
