TO BE COMMENCED TO-DAY-Mr C. A. Schauer, Chief Inspector of V the Public Health Department, and Mr- ; D. Munro, District Health Inspector for y Hawke’s Bay, arrived in Gisborne yesterday to make a house to house visitation of the town and to report upon tho J sanitation of the Borough to their chief officer (Dr. J. M- ■Mason) who will in turn report to'the Borough Council. The Inspectors will have The assistance of Messrs J. R. Little and CFerris in their work, and will start out> upon their task to-day. The Inspectors are given power by law to enter all premises, houses or rooms where thev think a nuisance is likely to exist. The question has been raised as ta what would happen if the Borough Council refused or neglected to takeproper and prompt measures feet to the recommendations of the i üblic Health Department to remedy the existing insanitary condition oi tne town. Provided that, it the probable expense cf any work exceeds £2OO, the District Health Officer shall obtain the approval or the Minuter before causing the work to be done.
