ST PATRICK’S DAY.
' ANNUAL SOCIAL. The annual social in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day was held in the Garrison. Hall last evening, and was a great success in every way. About 400 couples were present, and danced a long progarmme of dances to music supplied by Messrs Vita Bros.’ orchestra. I lie floor was in excellent order, and the dancers thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Among those present were the Revs. lathers Lane and Ormond, aud Bio. Little, P.D.P. of the Auckland branch of th& a H.A.C.B.S. The dresses worn by theladies last- evening were very tastemi, green being a conspicuous AIL the officers aud brothers ox the Gtsoorne H.A.C.B.S. present wore their lodge regalia. The M.C. s were Messrs Webb and J. Doyle, aud Bros. —j Brennan, Bradley, anu Hnughey. The supper was supplied by a committee or ladies, under the secretaryship of .Mrs. Phil Barry. The tables were artistically and appropriately decorated with flowers and green ribbons. ~ SPORTS MEETING. To-day a sports meeting will be held under th? qqspices or the Gisborne, branch oYthe H.A.C.8.5., on the Victoria Domain. A long programme ot foot races, bicycle races, no»elty rsOvS*— ~ aud other events has been prepared, as a large number of entries have been received, some keen contests can be anticipated. The first event- is timed to start shortly after 1 p.m.
A procession, which will be headed _ by the City Band, will leave the post ;i office for the Domain at 1 p.m. sharp. SPORTS AT INVERCARGILL. (Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, March IT. The Irish Athletic Society's twentythird sports gathering was held to-day, in beautiful weather, on the new Rugby Union grounds, which the competitors pronounced splendid. lhe attendance 4 was about 5*300" people, the gate takings totalling about £230.
