The second day's play in the match between the above clubs was commenced at 2.30 o’clock at the Taruheru ground on Saturday afternoon. The weather was fine, hut' the wicket, and outfield were slow and dead, as a result of recent rains. With a lead of 68 on the first innings, United started their second essay, but the batsmen could make no stand on the slow -wicket, and, batting two men short, the. eighth wicket fell with the small total of 43 on the board. H. Whvte was responsible for half of the total. He watched the ball carefully, and made his runs by capital cricket. Charles and Sharpies bowled well for Taruheru. Requiring 110 runs to win,-it was expected that Taruheru would make an exciting finish, as thev had their strongest team in the field.' - However, they iared_ even worse on the dead wicket than United had done, and were all disposed for for small total of 31. Only two members of the Te Eau eleven; H. Wack and J. Moore, rolled up on Saturday to resume the match with Wanderers. The latter team thus won hv default. A practice, game was played" to fill in the afternoon. “REDS” v. “BLUES.” The two sides ’of the Y.M’.C.A. campaign canvassers, Red and Blue,, tried conclusion on Saturday, in a match on the concrete wicket. The Blues were the winners, on the first innings, scoring 114 to the 73 of the Reds. For the Blues, the highest scores were made by D. Aliller (60) and S. Mill (19) ; while for' the Reds, Bull (24) was the only man to reach double figures. The Reds started their second innings, but were unable to finish.

The Auckland Cricket Association’s district .championships advanced another stage-yesterday, when.'the tenth round begun in beautifully' fine weather, j but owing to the heavy rains of the ! week. the wickets were, soft, and no sensational scores wore reported. The .North Shore team, in securing a throepoint win over Eden Colts, further increased tlicir dead, in the senior championship, and their position is now practically unassailable.’ The following is the result of the day’s' play in the senior grade:—North Shore v. Eden Colts: North Shore 283, Eden Colts, first innings, 57 (Alexander 24). . Howden took 6 wickets for 33 runs, and 'Jackson 4 for 19. Second innings 121 (Beach 21). ' Howclen took 6 wickets for 32 runs. North Shore won by an innings and 105 runs. A three-point win. University v. Grafton: University 144 and 150 for 8 wickets (Wallace 53, Ellis 38, Gray 23)._ Grafton, first innings, 116 (Mason 51). Robinson took-5 wickets for 55 and Fawcett. 2 for 10. University won by 28. runs on the first. innings—a. two-point win. Eden A. v. City : Eden A, first innings, 215 (Cummings . 78, Brown 48, 'Elliott 21). City 54 and 98 (Gleeson 26). CHRISTCHURCH MATCHES.

CHRISTCHURCH, March 20. The tenth and final round of the cricket matches commenced to-day. The grounds were very soft owing to the rain. (Sydenham gained a substantial lead over Linwood, the winners of the championship, by scoring 12 for seven wickets (Hays and Gray each 40). Linwood was disposed of for 98. East and West Christchurch played an even game. Tho last-mentioned -made 127, of which D. Reese scored a lucky 40. East Christchurch responded witli 110 for six wickets, Ward playing well for 46. Si. Albans put up a fine 213 against Riccarton) Bishop playing a magnificent innings for 156, which included eight sixes and sixteen fours. At the call of time Riccartom had lest one wicket for 82.
