x GISBORNE CLUB.
An interesting match in the competition for the President’s Cup (champion singles) of the Gisborne Club took place on the club’s green-yesterday afternoon, between J. J. Martin and Boulton. The former won by three points, after a somewhat remarkable contest. In the first half of the game the play was all in favor of Boulton, who, on the 12th head, had scored 13 to his opponent’s 5. Martin then had a run of luck, scoring on six consecutive heads, till, on the 18th, his total was 16, Boulton’s still standing at Id. The latter scored a couple on the 19th head, and Martin responded with o on the 20th. On the final head Boulton made a single, and game ended with the score: Martin 19, Boulton 16. TURANGANUI CLUB. Two matches in the handicap singles competition were played on the green of the Turanganui Club yesterday afternoon, and produced inerestmg contests. D. Hepburn (7) beat M. G. Nasmith, junr. (4), by 22 to 17. Hepburn scored rapidly in the earlier portion of the game, and was 13 to Nasmith’s 3 on the Bth head. The lattei, however, then scored on several heads, and on the 16th Hepburn had a lead of only two points, the scores being 16 to 14. W. H. Douglas {6) beat C. J. Bennett (5) by 21 to IS. The winner was 13 to 6 on the 10th head, and on the 16th the score was even —14 all.
