ROWING.
GISBORNE CLUB. The half-yearly, •meeting of the Gisborne Rowing Club will be held on Wednesday evening next, when the important subject of purchasing new boats will be fully put before the members. The committee, in their report, state they are strongly of opinion that the present duty on imported boats is excessive. "It is practically impossible to get boats built; in the Dominion at the present time, and to ensure delivery within a reasonable time, it is necessary to order from Australia. The duty, however, is a very heavy item: On the four boats it is suggested to procure the duty would amount to £36. A suggestion will he made that the local clubs- ask the New Zealand Rowing Association to again endeavor to have-the present 20 per cent .duty reduced during the coming season
