ATTENDANCE MEDALS.

DISTRIBUTED AT THE SCHOOL.

A number of parents were present at tho Gisborne School yesterday afternoon when' medals for good attendance were distributed to the scholars by Mr J. Somervell, Chairman of the School Committee. After distributing the medals Mr Somervell addressed the scholars. . He said it was what, might .be.termed a .red letter ..day in the school, and would long be remembered by both scholars and teachers. Some of the scholars had done well, others better, a good many excellent, and one or two par excellent. He was pleased to see so many smiling faces; they all seemed to be well fed and clothed, important factors in the attendance at school. They should prize their medals, which in years to come they would be able to look back upon with pride. He thought should be very thankful for the s®f of teachers they had, and they shoftd encourage them by putting heart into their work.

Mr Somervell then called for three cheers for the teachers, which were very heartily given. Mr Rowley on behalf of the teachers thanked the scholars for their cheers and also thanked all the parents present for their attendance. He then called for cheers for Mr Somervell, who had very kindly attended that afternoon, and also for Mr F. Harris, who had donated a handsome gold medal, which had been awarded to Master Albert Rhinesmith, Dux of the district, who had been fortunate and clever enough to win it.
