GISBORNE V. TURANGANUI. One. of the most pleasant gatherings of bowlers held this season took p!ace ; yesterday afternoon, when a team from the Gisborne Club paid a visit to the green of i the Turanganui Club, and tried conclusions with its representatives, The match, which was played on four, rinks) was a return for that held on the senior club’s green a fefv weeks ago, and the result was a reversal of that then obtained. Yesterday the Gisborne Club representatives were defeated by eight points, losing the game on three rinks and whining" on one. On the rink oh which they were successful", fjjiey obtained the very, substantial majority of 14 points, and thus counterbalanced another rink on which the Turanganui players were victorious by the same majority. The green was in verygood playing condition. The following were the players and scores at the various rinks :—• t. g. Totals ... ... ••• 80 72 After the conclusion of the match, Mr. Maithewson. president of the Turanganui Club, announced the result. He thanked" the members of the Gisborne Club for having visited the Turanganui green, and congratulated them on having made such a good score on a green to which most of them were not accustomed. He called, for three cheers for the visitors, which were heartily given by the members of Ins club, with one added for Mr. W. Pettie, president o'f the Gisborne Club. Mr W. Pettie, in acknowledging the. compliment, said it was a very -great pleasure to the members of the Gisborne Club. to visit the green of -the TuTanganui Club, where they had had a very -pleasant game, and met with most generous hospitality. He vas very pleased to see that the meinbeis of -the Turanganui Club had reached a standard of play which would compare favorably with that cf any club in the Association. He remarked that the iesult of the match" just played would necessitate a third to "decide the rubbei, and he hoped that that match would be as pleasant, and that, the best team mMit.win, Mr. Pettie called for three cheers for the Turanganui Club and one move for its president. These were heartily given by the members o t the Gisborne Club, and then all the howlers on the. ground joined in a hearty cueer for the ladies. " , , c ■ -. A considerable number -of lady friends of the club members witnessed thematch, and an excellent afternoon tea was provided by Airs. A. Sawyer, who mas assisted by Mrs. Alex. Robertson and Misses Quinn and Oman. GISBORNE CLUB. A considerable number of members of the Gisborne Bowling Club assembe.cl oil their green yesterday afternoon and had some, interesting play. .Mr. -C.. H. Ambridge, the energetic secretary of the club, who has sufficiently recovered from his recent illness to put in an appearance on the green, was present, and took part in the play. . In one a foui skipped.by Roberston beat one skipped hv Pavitt” bv 25 to 17. In the other a three, with Bullock as skip, beat another, skipped by Ambridge by 36 to 22.
