A DUCK-LAYING COMPETITION, (Press Association.) ' CHRISTCHURCH, March 27. A competition which promisee to create more than the usual amount of interest is the duck-laying competition, instituted by the “New Zealand Poultry Journal,” at St. Albans., The entries closed on Friday, and total 24, a. world’s record. The number of birds is exactly half that of the number off hens competing at Lincoln College thisyear, so that it will be interesting tonote how ducks compare with hens. Entries have been obtained from Australia. The competition opens next Thursday. FIRES AT CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, March 28, Two fires took place on Saturday? night, at ten and eleven o’clock.
