Davis, wlio lias acted as first officer of the Nimrod ever, since she was placed in commission for the purpose of the expedition, takes command of tlie Nimrod as from to-day, Captain Evans having signed off. Captain Davis is to take the Nimrod home via. Svdney and possibly Melbourne.

A large representative meeting or citizens decided to accord a public ’i' elcome and reception to the member!’, or the British Antarctic expedition and set up a committee to arrange details. Whilst the committee was discussing preliminaries, Lieutenant Adams, one of the members of the Far South party, attended, and stated that after Wednesday Lieutenant Shackleton would bo tlie only member of the expedition m Christchurch. In view of tlie brief period at their disposal, the committee decided to abandon the proposed reception. __
